Children's Museum -
Always a hit with the younger set, the museum offers educational
and entertaining hands-on exhibits and programs geared toward
youngsters and their families. Shop in the Mini-Market; make and
take arts and crafts. Exhibits change every three months.
Facility available for rentals in the evening. Hours: Tues-Sat,

Austin
History Center -
A research library specializing in current and historical
materials about Austin and Travis County. The center documents
its history from before the community's founding in 1839, to the
present; and offers small rotating exhibits and photos. Two
public meeting rooms by reservation (for non-profit groups).

Museum of Art - Downtown
- The museum offers a wide variety of opportunities
for those interested in visual arts with 8,500 square feet of
exhibition space, educational classrooms and opportunities, a
gift shop, special events and much, much more. Hours: Call for

Museum of Art - Laguna Gloria
- Nationally known for its art exhibits, and listed
in the National Register of Historic Places, Laguna Gloria, the
homesite of Clara Driscoll, savior of the Alamo, is a 1916
Mediterranean-style villa with 12-acre grounds on the banks of
Lake Austin. Hours: Tues-Sat, 10am-5pm; Thurs, 10am-9pm; Sun,

Washington Carver Museum
- This 1926 structure is the first neighborhood
museum in the State of Texas dedicated to African-American
history and culture. Formerly Austin's first main library, moved
to East Austin in 1933 as a branch library, and received a Texas
State Historical Marker in 1976. Hours: Tues-Thurs, 10am-6pm;

O.
Henry Museum - William
Sidney Porter, known as O. Henry to millions of readers, once
made his home in this relocated 1891 Victorian cottage, which is
furnished with artifacts and memorabilia. The Museum sponsors
the World Famous O. Henry Pun-Off, the Birthday Party and offers
creative writing workshops to children ages 10-14. Hours:

Republic
of Texas Museum -
Collections of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas focus on
the Republic period, 1836-1846. Exhibits include two large
hands-on learning areas called Great Grandma's Backyard and a
full-sized covered wagon. Hours: Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm, Sat,

Texas
State Library & Archives - Constructed in
1961 of the same red granite as the Capitol, this building
houses the Texas State Archives, Genealogy Collection and
Reference/Documents Collection. Visitors can view celebrated
artifacts and documents, as well as the famed mural, "Texas
Moves Toward Statehood." Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm. Genealogy
